Both-Those-Them

Both, Those, Them

In PSCT, there is a distinction between "Both", "Those", and "Them". This short cheat sheet explains this distinction.

"All" / "Both"

  • EG: Pot of Avarice (Target 5 monsters in your GY; shuffle all 5 into the Deck, then draw 2 cards.)
  • Everything targeted must be affected, otherwise none are affected.
  • If one of the targets can't be shuffled, none are shuffled, in which case no cards are drawn.

"Those Targets" / "That Target"

EG: Silverwind the Ascendant (You can target up to 2 face-up monsters on the field with DEF lower than this card's ATK; destroy those targets.)

  • Affect as many as possible, but only cards which are still legal targets.
  • When the effect resolves, if one of Silverwind's targets isn't face-up or has higher DEF than Silverwind's Atk, it isn't destroyed, but the other target is.

"Them" / "It"

EG: Icarus Attack: (Target 2 cards on the field; destroy them.)

  • It doesn't matter if the target(s) is no longer valid.
  • Even if one of Icarus' targets leaves the field before this resolves, the other is still destroyed.
